The Tanzania Premier League board revealed that they are ready to move on after Vodacom withdraws as a Mainland Premier League sponsor.
After long-term cooperation, the telecommunications company terminated its relationship with Tanzania’s top league due to financial difficulties.
The loss of 30 billion shillings in the last financial year was the main reason for their early termination of the contract-the contract should have ended at the end of last season.
Vodacom will pay 9 billion shillings to the league-3 billion shillings per season-to the league, but the huge losses in the 2020/21 fiscal year ended the three-year deal signed in 2019.
TPLB CEO Almas Kasongo stated that they are ready to move without a long-term partner.
“Vodacom has recently encountered financial problems. As I said now, the teams marching in the top league did not receive their traffic part in accordance with the signed contract,” Cassongo said. Daily news.

“They have sponsored the league for nearly 20 years, but when we received an official letter from them about the financial constraints they were experiencing, we met with the leaders of all the teams to update them.
“One voice, they all understand the challenge expressed by Vodacom in the letter, and agree to pay all their transportation expenses for the season, and they will repay it next season.
“These are internal affairs, but since our colleagues have publicly stated their intention to terminate the contract, we have nothing to say here.”
Kasongo added that many companies have expressed interest in cooperating with Tanzania’s top league: “Several companies have expressed interest in sponsoring the league, and we have started negotiations with them. We just postpone the negotiations because we already have a valid contract , Letting them join may be unacceptable.
“For us, this is not new, because we have talked to them, but we have been dealing with this issue internally. But they decided to make it public.”
When Azam TV just signed a new Premier League broadcast agreement with the Tanzania Football Association, Vodacom left.
