Mitazalimab is an agonistic or stimulatory antibody that targets CD40, a receptor on dendritic cells, which is the cell that instructs T cells to kill cancer cells. Mitazalimab activates CD40 so that dendritic cells can effectively stimulate the immune system and guide T cells to selectively attack tumors. This addresses one of the key mechanism requirements of immuno-oncology and highlights the potential of CD40 as a target for the treatment of patients with metastatic cancer. Mitazalimab has shown good efficacy-safety in previous phase I studies, making it an ideal choice for combining with standard care treatments such as chemotherapy, checkpoint inhibitors or cancer vaccines.
