Chennai Super Kings’ iconic captain, M.S. Dhoni, is gearing up for a triumphant return as he resumes training in preparation for the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) season. The 42-year-old cricket legend underwent successful surgery on his left knee after leading the Super Kings to their fifth IPL title earlier this year.
Rehabilitation and Training Schedule
CSK’s CEO, K.S. Viswanathan, provided a positive update on Dhoni’s fitness, stating, “He is doing well now. He has started his rehab and is working in the gym. And, probably in another ten days, he will also start working in the nets.” With the IPL season set to commence around March 22, the franchise plans to organize a training camp in Chennai by the first week of March.
The recent IPL auction in Dubai saw the Super Kings strategically fortifying their squad for the upcoming season. Viswanathan expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance at the auction, stating, “We pretty much got all our targets.” The addition of six players, including Daryl Mitchell and Mustafizur Rahman, aligns with CSK’s strategic vision for success in the upcoming season.
Strategic Move for Uncapped Batter
One notable move during the auction was CSK’s decision to spend Rs 8.4 crore on uncapped batter Sameer Rizvi. Viswanathan shed light on the decision, saying, “Sameer Rizvi was a targeted player for many of the franchises. We were probably a bit lucky in getting him.” Rizvi is seen as a potential replacement for Ambati Rayudu, and CSK is banking on his promising talent to contribute to the team’s success.
Viswanathan emphasized the franchise’s commitment to building a team for the future, aiming for sustained success. He explained, “We are also trying to build the team for the future, which will help us in the longer run.” CSK’s previous selections of young talents like Shaik Rasheed, Nishant Sindhu, and Rajvardhan Hangargekar highlight their strategic focus on developing a balanced and dynamic squad.
As fans eagerly await the return of Captain Cool, M.S. Dhoni, and the new recruits gearing up for the challenges ahead, the Chennai Super Kings seem poised for another thrilling IPL season in 2024.
