Having had the privilege to do it for 12 years internationally is simply beyond my wildest dreams. It has been an incredible journey that I have been fortunate enough to have.”
Later he added, “ As they say, ‘all good things come to an end’, and the Indian home series will be my last, as I have made the decision to retire from our beautiful game. A game that has given me so much. The Cape Town Test will be my last. My favorite stadium in the world. A place I scored my first Test run against New Zealand and hopefully my last too.”
Elgar’s Career:
The left-handed opener of South Africa, Dean Elgar had an exciting career. This versatile cricketer has always been an asset to the team. Till now, he played 84 Test matches and scored 5146 runs. That contained 13 centuries and 23 half-centuries. His highest score in the longest form of cricket is 199. One of his memorable innings was 118 runs in 246 balls against England in 2015. South Africa was struggling in that match. Elgar stood strong and played this excellent innings in the first innings.
He will be retiring after playing the Test series against India. In 2018-19, he played an amazing knock in the first Test of the South Africa Tour of India. Against the spin, he played an excellent knock of 160 runs in 287 balls in Vishakhapatnam. South Africa lost the match but Dean Elgar’s innings won hearts.
