Shubman Gilla young cricketer, shone in the just concluded Indian Premier League. The opener scored 890 runs in 17 matches, the second-most by any cricketer in the competition’s history. The 23-year-old, though, wants to put it behind him and focus on the forthcoming World Test Championship decider against Australia, which is set to begin on June 7 at The Oval in London.

When asked about the difficulties of transitioning to Test cricket following a marathon T20 tournament, Gill stated that it is both exciting and tough. He also stated that his performance in the IPL will undoubtedly enhance his confidence going forward, but he recognizes that Test cr icket is a different ball game and that the circumstances in England will be vastly different from those in India.

Shubhman Gill said

“It does give you a bit of confidence (from the IPL), but I feel this is a completely different scenario and a completely different game but that’s the fun about it. Last week we were playing something completely different with a different atmosphere and that is the challenge and that is what is exciting about Test cricket,” Gill said while talking to ICC.

Team India lost the World Test Championship final against New Zealand by eight wickets in the previous edition, and Gill stated that everyone on the team discussed it and that they will strive to overcome the mistakes this time around.

Notably, Gill scored 28 and 8 runs in both innings, but he has evolved since then and is one of the few Indian cricketers in recent years to reach century in all three forms.

“We have been talking about some of the things we have learned as a team and especially as a batting group from playing that match. Hopefully, we will be able to overcome the mistakes we made last time,” Gill concluded.
