Ashwin warns Dhawan
During the seventh over of the Punjab Kings (PBKS) innings, off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin was just about to bowl the third ball when he noticed that Shikhar Dhawan, who was standing at the non-striker’s end, had stepped away from his crease. Ashwin, a seasoned campaigner, quickly recognized the opportunity to issue a warning to Dhawan, who was backing up too far and wasted no time in doing so.
The experienced spinner halted his delivery stride mid-way and turned towards the stumps, signaling to the batter and his teammates that he was going to attempt a run-out. This sudden move caught Dhawan off guard, and he immediately retreated back to his crease Ashwin, who had been keeping a close eye on Dhawan’s movements, had effectively put an end to any future attempts by the left-handed opener to gain an unfair advantage by backing up too far.
After Ashwin’s warning to Dhawan, he gave the left-handed opener a fierce stare to further emphasize his point. Interestingly, the camera then shifted its focus to Rajasthan Royals (RR) superstar Jos Buttler, who was standing at the boundary line. It is worth noting that Ashwin had famously run-out of Buttler for backing up too far during an IPL match in 2019, which had caused a stir in the cricketing world. Buttler’s dismissal had triggered a dramatic collapse for the RR team, and Ashwin’s move was heavily criticized by many experts and fans back then.
