Ravindra Jadeja’s second no-ball of the Border Gavaskar Trophy, Indore Test on Day 1 disappointed former India captain Sunil Gavaskar. He was on commentary box when this happened and the batting great could not stop himself from reacting.
What happened?
Ravindra Jadeja bowled his 8th no-ball of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy on Day 1 of the third Test against Australia in Indore. His second no ball of the day saw Marcus Labuschagne playing it onto the stumps. As soon as India started celebrating the wicket, the umpire called it a no-ball. the world number 1 batter Labuschagne was batting on 0 at that point in the second session on Day 1 of the Indore Test.
No wonder everyone was disappointed as Labuschagne returned to the middle and Sunil Gavaskar called it unacceptable. He said on the Star Sports, “This is not acceptable. He has a couple of man-of-the-match awards but a spinner bowling no ball ¦ I think Paras Mhambrey has to sit down with him and make him bowl from behind. This could cost India.”
Khawaja leading Australian batting
Labuschagne went on to add 31 runs and build a solid partnership with Usman Khwaja. Jadeja who eventually took the wicket, had dismissed Steve Smith in the second innings of the first Test match in Nagpur but it was also off a no-ball. He had failed to scalp his 250th Test wicket and had to wait for the second Test in Delhi to achieve the feat. Interestingly, Jadeja is also the leading the wicket-takers in ongoing the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023 at present.
Earlier in the day, India were bundled out for just 109 as Australia’s left-arm spinner Matthew Kuhnemann got his maiden 5-wicket haul. Kohli was India’s top scorer with 22 to his name. Australia, thanks to Khawaja’s half-century gone have already past India’s score.
